Sony is continuing its express train ride into the realm of 3D with confirmation at this year's Photokina that the PS3 will be able to playback your 3D panoramic images captured with Sony Cyber-shot and Alpha cameras.

The new app, called PlayMemories, will be downloadable from the PlayStation Store and lets you organize and view 3D still images captured with the growing range of 3D-compatible cameras by Sony.

Users will be able to select a picture and zoom in or out using the PS3 controller - no word on whether or not there will be PlayStation Move support.

Sony's 3D Sweep Panorama captures extra-wide 3D scenes.

Cameras offering 3D Sweep Panorama currently include the NEX-5/NEX-3, Cyber-shot WX5 and Cyber-shot TX9, plus the new α55 and α33 translucent mirror cameras.

PlayMemories is available as a free download from PlayStation®Store from late September 2010.

Sony says that users will have to have PS3 system software version 3.40 or later required and of course a 3D Ready TV.
