Inspired by a parent with a child with the condition, a new blood glucose meter has been unveiled for kids with diabetes that hooks up to Nintendo's handheld consoles.

The "Didget" is the first such device to connect directly to Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite and rewards the kids for "building consistent blood glucose testing habits and meeting personalised glucose target ranges".

Addressing what is said to be one of the biggest challenges facing parents of children with diabetes - getting them in the habit of regular blood glucose testing - the hope is to make the process fun with unlocked levels and gaming experiences on Bayer's coming-soon Didget World website.

Bayer's Didget meter comes with "Knock 'Em Downs: World's Fair" which includes a full length adventure game and mini game arcade, it's coming "soon", in the meantime, there's more info at www.bayerdidget.co.uk.
