Nintendo has finally put its New Nintendo 3DS handheld console on sale in the UK, but it's unlikely you'll be able to get your hands on one.

The Japanese gaming giant is offering select Club Nintendo members the chance to buy one for £179.99 ahead of an official European release later this year. And the selection process has only chosen members who fulfil a "certain criteria".

What that means is anyone's guess as Nintendo is keeping tight-lipped. "We are unable to disclose such business information, however we would like to reassure you that we are continually looking at different promotional offerings we can bring to consumers at various times throughout the year," the company said in a statement.

It is likely that the "Ambassador Edition" console is being offered to Club Nintendo Ambassadors primarily - early adopters who were awarded that status by Nintendo itself. So, unless you're one of those you'll more than likely have to wait to buy the refreshed version of the 3DS.

However, it's good to see the smaller New 3DS finally making its way to the UK, albeit slowly. Its main benefit over the existing model (the New 3DS XL too) is that it has a wider viewing angle for the 3D screen, which the original was crying out for.
