Nintendo has announced a new Legend of Zelda game at its E3 conference in Los Angeles.

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword will introduce a new control mechanism that maps where you point your Wii Remote and Nunchuk on screen, getting rid of the need to map specific tasks to specific buttons.

In practice that means you have to hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as if it really where a sword and shield to defeat enemies and block attacks, with baddies only being able to be defeated by swiping at them in a certain way.

Building on the idea of motion, and in some way attempting to replicate elements of the Sony PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Kinect, the players will be able to confuse combatants by moving around the Wii Remote quickly.

Also improved is the games sling shot feature, which replicates your movements rather than just providing a target.

Using the V Motion plus controller users will be able to access weapons and inventory items by pulling the controllers towards their chests to access them. The game is expected to be available in 2011. Nintendo has yet to set an exact date.
