Metal Gear Solid: Rising has had a name change; now to be called Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance details posted on the new game also suggest a far bigger focus on all-out action as opposed to the mix of stealth and action in previous iteration.
Part of this move has to be linked with Platinum Games taking the helm, as previous titles such as Bayonetta and Vanquish have scored high in the action stakes and it is something it clearly does very well. Kojima Productions clearly has a solid idea of where it wants the game to go.
However, this change in gameplay seems to be taking a big step away from the traditional setup of the franchise and is something that might cause a bit of a backlash with some of Metal Gear's more ardent fans.
To be fair, MGS: Rising was initially supposed to be a spin-off, delivering a story centred around MGS 2 character Raiden, so was never seen as a direct followup. However the decision to set Revengeance in the future, post MGS 4 means that many will see this as the way of the future for the series.
Still, if the trailer is anything to go by, if you like your action we doubt this is going to disappoint.
