It's obvious if you read Pocket-lint's comprehensive reviews of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 and FIFA 11 that EA Sports was, once again, the undoubted winner in the football sim franchise battle last year.

And, if further proof was needed, then consider this: PES 2011 cover star, and the best footballer on the planet, Lionel Messi loves a bit of FIFA 11 action.

The revelation came during the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala over in Zurich on Monday.

And it was Messi's Barcelona team-mate Gerard Piqué who outed the Argentinian as a secret FIFA fanboy.

"I play FIFA11 on the road, in hotels and with the team”, said Pique. "Messi and Iniesta also like to play allot".

Piqué did claim that he was the best out of the three though, which may indicate that Messi hasn't yet honed his FIFA-skills. Maybe he's too used to the Konami control set up.
