Electronic Arts has announced that The Sims 4 will be available in 2014, supported on Mac and PC. Details for the title, other than it will be developed by Maxis, were light, but the company said more details would be made in the near future.

"The Sims franchise is fuelled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world," the company wrote on its blog. "Their continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world’s most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide."

Speaking on a conference call with VIPs, Maxis told listeners that The Sims 4 will be going back to the "roots" of the Sims franchise. "So we're listening to fans like you, and we're going back to our roots, the Sims, themselves. We felt it was important to unlock new ways for your Sims to interact with one another. So we're focusing on the complexity of Sim-to-Sim interactions and they way your Sims behave." An image was released for The Sims 4 that teases the importance of eyes for the 2014 title.

According to an expanded announcement obtained by Beyond Sims, The Sims 4 will feature an offline element. "There will be additional fun and social gameplay elements for players who choose to go online (more to come on that later on) but the core game is designed to be played offline. It’s up to the player to choose how they want to play," the announcement read. "You will not require a persistent offline connection to play The Sims 4."

SimCity released earlier this year, disappointed many gamers as it didn't include an offline component. This caused issues when the game first came out and when it was knocked offline for a few hours in late-April when SimCity version 2.0 was released. We're sure many Sims fans will be happy to hear The Sims 4 will include an offline component.

The Maxis conference call held on Monday hinted that a fan event for The Sims 4 will be held in late August, when we hope to gain more information
