For the first time in the franchise, players can choose to take up a position between the sticks in FIFA 11, as EA has added a Be A Goalkeeper feature to its bursting list of game modes.
The goalkeeping position offers a radically different way to play the game, with varying degrees of AI help; assisted, semi-assisted and fully manual. The action will also take on an all new graphical perspective too, although you will be able to play in traditional "from the stands" mode.
Gamers can play as the goalie in the Career mode too, creating a new player in Virtual Pro 2.0 and working their way through 15 seasons. Plus, the goalkeeper is now playable in online play, finally allowing for true 11 vs 11 human-controlled games.
Chelsea and Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech will be the face of the new feature, silly hat and all.
FIFA 11 will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for 1 October. Further versions for Wii, Nintendo DS, mobile, etc, will follow shortly after.
