EA has confirmed that it's planning to bring the Sims 3 franchise to consoles. The Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 and Nintendo DS will all be getting versions of the title, which will differ from platform to platform.

"We're bringing players the best console and handheld game for The Sims franchise to date and are excited to offer a unique experience for all types of gamers on their platform of choice", said EA's appropriately-named executive producer Sam Player. Each will come with its own multiplayer modes.

The Wii will get a beach town location and a multiplayer mode called "life moments". The Xbox 360 and PS3 get Facebook connectivity, and DS owners will be able to design their Sims' environment with their stylus in a touch-based editor. All versions will also get new "Karma powers" which are time-limited stat bonuses.

The new titles will be arriving in the autumn. More on their features, mechanics and other details when we hear it.
