After enjoying 6 weeks topping the game charts, it's been revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has nabbed the all-format Christmas number one spot, according to Chart Track data.

Although not as prestigious a position as getting the number one in the music charts, it's extra publicity for a game that's not been far from the headlines, thanks to its 18 certificate and record-breaking sales success.

FIFA 10 is said to have narrowly missed out on the top spot, rising three places to slot in at number two, while Wii Fit Plus, the follow-up to the original Balance Board Wii game is still proving popular at three.

This news suggests there will be a few copies of the Activision game under trees this Christmas, although here at Pocket-lint Towers we're holding out for the release of Modern Warfare 3.
