Barack Obama is the hero of a new online game in which he has to collect American flags, dodge lipstick-wearing pit bulls, lobbyists and, of course, Sarah Palin.

Super Obama World - based on that old favourite Super Mario World - is free to play online and the developers have promised to add new episodes throughout Obama's presidency.

Developers Zensoft has taken a tongue in cheek approach to the game including adding, amongst the environments Obama must get through, the luxury stores Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue pointing to the fact that the Republican campaign reportedly spent more than $150,000 on Palin's wardrobe.

A spokesperson for the Conservative party told BBC News that "a future video game featuring David Cameron was unlikely, but couldn't be ruled out".
