(Pocket-lint) - Summer Game Fest 2022 is upon us. It kicked off with an opening livestream, while publishers have also hosted their own showcases.

Here's everything you need to know about it, including the games announced so far.

Born from the pandemic and global lockdowns, Summer Game Fest started in 2020 to fill the void left by a cancelled E3.

It ran from May to August and featured publisher announcements, in-game events and an opening livestream that crammed in bundles of game info and trailers.

This year it runs for a shorter period but again replaces a cancelled E3 event.

The main part of Summer Game Fest began with a live kickoff show on Thursday 9 June (which you can re-watch at the top of this page).

Other publisher events will take place over the following weeks and tie into the gaming festival.

Summer Game Fest is online-only with a number of key events taking place throughout June. Several events have already taken place, but here's what's still to come.

An additional 90 minute event is planned for a couple of days after the main Xbox and Bethesda Showcase. It'll feature even more new trailers and deeper dives into some of the games announced during the first stream.

You should be able to watch it here.

There are several other streams and events from indie developers and publishers, so keep your eye out for more.
