Sony’s PlayStation Classic mini console is $60 off the price at which it launched just four months ago.

You can now buy it for $39.99 at Amazon. The console, which debuted in November, is a splendid slice of mid-90s gaming fun. It comes with a great selection of games from the PS1 era, including Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, and Final Fantasy VII. Overall, the games list is where the PlayStation Classic falters a touch. But it's still a tech treat a retro games fan will thoroughly enjoy.

In our review of the reimagined console, we described it as a great but not perfect bundle of blast from the past that anyone who lived through the era the first time will savour. But, at its original launch price of $99/£90, we thought it was an expensive trip down memory lane. That's why, at this new price of $40, we think it's definitely worth grabbing now. It's the best price we've seen for the system yet.

Over the holidays, you could find it at various places for a little over $50. This new Amazon (US) sale is $10 less than that! Now if only it could have a few more games to keep us entertained. We would've loved UmJammer Lammy, Resident Evil 2, or Legend of Dragoon, to name a few.

The PlayStation Classic mini comes with 20 pre-loaded games including, is approximately 45 per cent smaller than the original, and features two wired controllers, a virtual memory card, and an HDMI cable in the box.
