Red Dead Redemption 2 will available from Friday, 26 October for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but if you plan to buy it you have to make sure you have enough space on your hard drive to store the entire game.

And if you haven't got superfast broadband, you might have a lengthy wait before you can even buy it.

That's because Rockstar has confirmed the file sizes for both consoles and they make for eye-watering reading.

According to the company's own support pages, the Xbox One version is 107GB, no matter whether you opt for the digital or disc edition. The PS4 version weighs in at 99GB, no matter the format, and the digital download requires an additional 50GB of free space on your hard drive for the installation process.

That means the Xbox One digital download will take more than 15 hours to complete even if your broadband matches the UK average of around 16Mbps. Yikes.

There is some good news for those who pre-order the digital edition, however. Rockstar will start the download process for pre-orders tonight, a week before release. You will still need enough spare space on your hard drive - 107GB for Xbox One, 149GB for PS4 - but it should be ready and unlocked to play on release day.

Those who purchase it on the day are likely to have to wait a while, even if it's the disc copy.
