Unveiled at the Games Developers Conference in March this year, augmented reality mobile game The Walking Dead: Our World is now available as a free download for iOS and Android.

Based on the AMC TV series (rather than the comic books), the game fills the real world with zombies that you have to seek out and destroy.

Famous landmarks are crawling with walkers to eliminate, as are parks, the streets and even your own sofa, so you can travel in the real world - as in Pokemon Go - to find the best clusters or hoards to battle.

The game has several modes of play, including the ability to fight solo or in weekly missions with friends. And although you start out fairly weak, you can collect characters from the TV series to fight alongside you. There are also weapons cards you can collect that will deal greater damage.

As alluded to above, you don't have to hit the streets all the time to play Our World. You can also play the game from your own couch.

It is available in 153 countries worldwide and Next Games utilised Apple's ARKit and Google ARCore for development.

Other augmented reality games inspired by Niantic's outstanding success of Pokemon Go are also available or still to come this year.

Jurassic World Alive puts AR dinosaurs in real world locations for you to hunt down; a Ghostbusters game will do something similar with spectres in the near future; and Niantic itself is working on Harry Potter: Wizard's Unite for release later this year or early next.
