Independent Danish developer Playdead announced on Wednesday that its Limbo video game would release worldwide for iOS devices on 3 July.

Limbo is a puzzle-platform game, where the title's main character - a boy - is "uncertain of his sister's fate" and enters Limbo. The popular video game first released in July 2010 on Xbox Live Arcade, and ports later landed for PlayStation 3 and Vita, Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Playdead revealed that Limbo has sold over 3 million copies across all platforms, so a dedicated team has worked hard to bring the Limbo experience to iPad 2 and newer, iPad mini, iPhone 4S and newer and the latest generation of iPod Touch.

On the US Mac App Store, Limbo currently has a 4.5-star rating based on nearly 800 reviews. Limbo will cost $4.99 (£3.26) when it hits Apple's App Store next week.
