South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone took to the stage at the Microsoft E3 press conference in LA today to herald the forthcoming role-playing game based on the adult cartoon series.

Called South Park: The Stick of Truth, the game lets you create your own character using the same art style as the series itself, with you joining Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny as "the new kid". And the best news, for Kinect owners at least, is that the Xbox 360 version also has voice recognition. so you can bark swear-based commands for the boys to follow.

Trey Parker said that when approached by THQ  with the idea for the game, he and Stone suddenly realised they didn't know as much about their own cartoon as they thought. The game will feature a fully fleshed-out version of the town of South Park and neither Parker nor Stone knew exactly where each location was in relation to each other. For example, they had no idea where Stan's house actually was.

However, they are very pleased with the end result, being especially happy with the ability to wander through each character's home and get more of a feel for the South Park mythos.

And from the trailer we saw at the press conference, you can expect a fair amount of laughs along the way.

THQ's South Park: The Stick of Truth will be out 5 March 2013. It will also be available for PS3 and PC, although the Xbox 360 version will offer exclusive downloadable content for those who pre-order it. in the shape of The Mysterion Superhero pack.
