Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds, has finally launched a worthy sequel. Angry Birds Space reinvigorates the franchise because  it's far more than just firing birds from a catapult to take out some green pigs.

Hoping to knock overnight sensation Draw Something off the top of the app charts, the new title introduces a fresh gameplay idea, adding the concept of gravity to make it even more challenging.

"The number one mobile game of all time blasts off into space! After a giant claw kidnaps their eggs, the Angry Birds chase it into a wormhole and find themselves floating in a strange new galaxy – surrounded by space pigs!" reads the blurb on iTunes.

Rovio is promising regular free updates, new in-app purchases, brand new birds, brand new superpowers and 60 levels.

Like the Mighty Eagle in the original game, users of Angry Birds Space will be able to access the Space Eagle that has the ability to open a wormhole of destruction.

The new game is available on iOS, Android, Amazon, PC and Mac. Windows Phone 7 users will miss out however, as there is no WP7 version at the moment.

Also likely to cause a stir is that iPad and iPhone users will have to buy the game twice as Rovio has opted for separate versions of the new game for the two different devices. The iPad version costs £1.99 compared to the iPhone's 69p offering.

iPhone - 69p

iPad (in HD) - £1.99

Google Play - Free

PC - 5.95 Euros

Mac App Store - £2.99
