The much anticipated iOS update to the ultra-cool, ultra-playable classic Amiga game, Speedball 2, has been dated for the 24 February - bringing Speedball 2: Evolution to iPad owners everywhere.

The original Bitmap brothers' Speedball 2 found massive success due to some great graphics, and gameplay that was second-to-none (apart from maybe sensible soccer). And this is something that Vivid Games, under the guidance of The Bitmap Brothers and Tower Studios’ Jon Hare, hopes to duplicate with this app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Our very own gaming guru and news editor, Rik Henderson, had a chance to interview Jon Hare recently, where they talk in depth of how the game found its way on to iOS.

The game offers two alternative control systems: a classic, soft joypad, which replicates the controls of the early computer versions, and a new, innovative tilt-to-move option, in which team-mates can be manipulated simply by moving the device, meaning the whole screen can be seen at all times on the iPhone.

In our interview, when asked why he chose Speadball 2, Jon Hare said: "There are several reasons why. Firstly, Speedball 2 is a classic game that is perfect for many modern day downloadable platforms, including iOS, and there is nothing else like it on the market at the moment."

Speedball 2 Evolution will be available in the App Store on 24 February with the price to be confirmed.
