As we'd reported would be the case last month, TomTom has announced two new versions of the TomTom ONE and TomTom XL that will launch in the UK mid-April.

The TomTom ONE IQ Routes and TomTom XL IQ Routes bring technologies, previously only available on the higher spec TomTom GO series, to the TomTom ONE and TomTom XL ranges for the first time.

In addition, the two new models have been completely revised and feature a new black finish, a new user interface and increased Tele Atlas European map coverage.

IQ Routes is TomTom's software offering that claims to know the best routes depending on the time of day, or day of the week. So, it will offer a different route at 3pm on a Sunday than it would at rush hour on a weekday morning.

TomTom says it means users automatically have the most reliable travel and arrival times on their device and that the info is based on facts derived from years of gathering anonymous historic speed measurements.

In addition there's lane guidance, safety camera alerts, fuel price info (as a free 3 month trial) as well as TomTom HOME desktop software and Map Share.

The TomTom ONE IQ Routes has a 3.5-inch screen while the TomTom XL IQ Routes gets a 4.3-inch display.

The new TomTom ONE and TomTom XL IQ Routes editions will be available from from mid April, suggested retail prices are £149.99 for TomTom ONE IQ Routes with UK and Ireland maps and £169.99 for the model with European maps.

TomTom XL IQ Routes edition will go on sale for £189.99 for the UK/Ireland model and £209.99 for the one with European maps.
