JJ Abrams was recently interviewed by The Times Magazine where he revealed that his plans for the latest Star Wars film include making it much darker, like the original trilogy.
The last trilogy, many said, lost a lot of the charm the older films achieved. Perhaps in an attempt to appeal to a younger market, to make money from merchandise, the integrity of the original atmosphere was compromised.

Abrams wants to go back to the aesthetic of the first films making it dirtier more like the Wild West rather than the gleaming futuristic world of the new films.
"The beauty of [the original film] was that it was an unfamiliar world," Abrams told The Times, "and yet you wanted to see it expand and to see where it went".
The script is under way with Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (writer of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) writing together. Fingers crossed we'll see returns from the like of Luke, Han and Leia.
