Samsung has announced the launch of the S2 "Pebble" MP3 Player and S3 Slim Portable Media Player in the States.

The company says these newest additions "weave together elements from the latest trends in modern fashion design, while upholding Samsung's dedication to providing consumers with top-notch audio quality and multimedia playback".

Available in a variety of colours, Samsung are angling the devices as "more than just media players" stating that they are "true fashion accessories that can be used to accentuate anyone's personal style".

The S2 Pebble is an ultra-compact MP3 player available in black, white, red, green and purple in the shape of a rounded, polished stone.

The Pebble offers MP3, WMA and OGG file playback for up to 13 hours on a single charge via the rechargeable battery, but only has a measly 1GB of internal flash memory. (Update: We're being told a 2GB version will also launch in the UK).

The player has Samsung's Digital Natural Sound engine 2.0 and the Pebble's controls are on the back in a layout described as straightforward and designed to be operated without having to look down at the buttons.

The S3 Slim Portable Media Player features full multimedia functionality in a device measuring 0.4-inches thick and weighing 1.8 ounces with a 1.8-inch screen.

The S3 offers playback of MP3 and WMA music, an FM radio and recorder, JPEG photo viewer, MPEG4 video player, text reader and compact game system.

Available in green, red, blue, classic black and white, the built-in rechargeable battery can provide a near 25 hours of audio playback and up to 4 hours of video. Capacity is 4GB. (Update: UK models will have 2GB, 4GB or 8GB capacities).

Both models will be available in the States in June. In the UK the S3 2GB and 4GB versions will launch in June while the 8GB version will be available in August.

The S2 will launch in the UK in June in 1GB and 2GB varieties but only in black and pink.
