The Vista team at Microsoft have published the "Final iPod Update" for people running the latest version of iTunes on their Vista PC.
If you download this patch (and you can do so by following the hyperlink below) this should resolve the reported issue that your Apple iPod may become corrupted (noooo!!) when ejecting them via Windows Explorer or by using the (oh, the irony) "Safely Remove Hardware" option.
This same update will be automatically available via Windows Update on Tuesday 22 May so if you can’t find the time then just let techno-magic do its auto-update thang, although we wouldn't recommend hooking up your 'Pod with your PC until then, and according to Nick White of the Vista team's blog, neither would they:
"The long and short of it is this: Apple and Windows have partnered together to ensure a great experience in using Windows Vista with iTunes and the iPod, and both companies recommend you download this update."
