Creative has launched a widescreen version of its portable Zen Vision media player in Sigapore today ahead of IFA 2006 in Berlin.

The new player, called the The Creative ZEN Vision W, offers up to 240 Hours of Video, Tens of Thousands of Photos or 15,000 Songs via the unit's 4.3-inch, 16:9 format, colour widescreen TFT.

Creative are also hoping that camera users will turn to the device fitting it with a built-in Compact Flash slot.

The Creative ZEN Vision W will initially only be available in Singapore as a 30GB model, with a 60GB model launching at the end of the month. Although not confirmed for Europe the price will be S$649 (£216) for the 30GB model and S$749 (£249) for the 60GB model.

"We designed the Creative ZEN Vision W with a stunning 16:9-format widescreen and 30GB or 60GB capacity to be the most compelling portable video player and photo viewer on the market", said Sim Wong Hoo, chairman and CEO of Creative.

The Creative ZEN Vision W supports a wide selection of video formats, including MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4-SP, MJPEG and XviD, for playback of video clips and movies downloaded from the Internet.

The Creative ZEN Vision W also supports digitised home movies transferred from the PC. The removable rechargeable battery provides up to 4.5 hours of video playback.

The company has also announced a 60GB version of its Zen Vision:M media player first announced before Christmas in 2005.
