Acer has announced an ebook reader that it hopes will enjoy the same sort of success Amazon has had with its Kindle. The LumiRead has a 6-inch E Ink screen like the Kindle 2 and also a full QWERTY keyboard.
There's 2GB of flash memory on board, which should allow you to store up to 1500 books, and if that's not enough then you can expand using the microSD slot or you can use Acer's new clear.fi system to stream ebooks or audio books from your other Acer devices. Connectivity is, by way, both 3G and Wi-Fi.
Book deals have been struck with US giant Barnes & Noble as well as German company Libri.de. Acer is also in talks with French and Italian book suppliers, which indicates we should definitely be seeing a European launch.
There's no price details yet and no word as to when the LumiRead will hit the shops but, as always, we'll let you know as and when we hear anything.
