It's amazing what you can find if you trawl the applications sent to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), many of which being new products waiting for the stamp of approval. And in this instance, a very interesting iPhone/iPad dock from Griffin has appeared on the radar.

The Griffin PartyDock is no mere music-playing speaker set. Nor is it a charger. Nope, the PartyDock allows you to hook up your iPhone or iPad to a base station containing four wireless joypads. These will be able to control specifically programmed, compatible game apps, allowing for local multiplayer gaming without the need for everyone to have a different handset.

Its first app will include three party games - Midway Motors, Fishing Frenzy, and Flippin' Frogs - with more to come and, even more enticingly, the dock can be hooked up to a TV via composite or component video outputs, effectively turning your device into a fully fledged games console.

Unfortunately, as it is still in the approval stage, there's no indication of when, or even whether, it will see the light. Pocket-lint has asked Griffin for more details, but we're still waiting for a reply. We'll bring you more when we have it.
