Accessory guru Griffin has teamed up with the Frontier Design Group to offer Apple device users the opportunity to turn their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into a mobile guitar rig.

Griffin has come up with the GuitarConnect Cable that works alongside the iShred Live app from Frontier. The idea being that you can turn your iDevice into a functional guitar workstation.

The cable plugs into any electrical guitar and then into the headphone jack of your iOS machine. It also splits to give you an extra 3.5mm jack that you can use for headphones, amps, mixers and so forth.

When hooked up, fire up iShred for amp modelling and stomp box effects for guitar, bass, and other instruments.

When you open it up you are presented with an amp and pedal board and you get three effects free with the app (which is also free): HK-2000 digital delay (with tap tempo), Q-36 space modulator and buzz kill. You can pay for extra effects from within the app if you want more.

There are also other tools including the ability to save up to 48 user-programmable presets, and there's also a chromatic tuner and a looping audio player so you can play along with songs from your library.

The Griffin GuitarConnect cable is priced at £19.99 and you'll be able to get it directly from Apple before the summer is out and iShred Live is free and is in the App Store now.
