OnePlus has three new OnePlus 7 flagship models, including a 5G version expected to launch later this year.

Called the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, it will be one of the first 5G smartphones to hit the UK market. It's basically the OnePlus 7 Pro, though it adds some hardware to enable 5G capabilities on top of the baseline 3G/4G. Oh, and it has a 5G logo on the back. Here's what you need to know.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Release date

  • Exact release date has yet to be revealed
  • Sometime later this year

The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will launch alongside EE's 5G network, which should happen "in a few weeks".

The exact release date has yet to be confirmed. We know EE will be one of the first operators to stock it, alongside Elisa in Finland, but we'll probably hear more about its launch during EE's 5G network announcement mid-May. EE's 5G network is expected to launch in the UK's four capital cities, as well as Birmingham and Manchester, later in the year, with a wider rollout planned.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Price

  • Pricing has yet to be revealed

OnePlus did not reveal pricing for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G during its launch event. For comparison, when the OnePlus 7 Pro goes on sale from 21 May, it will start at £649 for the 6GB/128GB model, while the highest RAM/storage option with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost £799.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Design

  • Nearly bezel-less front
  • Front and back glass that's curved
  • No notch or hole punch; pop-up selfie camera

The handset looks awfully similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro, but the company hasn't said much. We got a brief look at it on the showfloor and couldn't tell it apart from its sibling. It appears to have the same 6.67-inch AMOLED display on the front, virtually no bezel on any side, no notch or hole punch camera, a pop-up camera on the top edge, and front and back glass that's curved on the edges.

It appeared to have the same Nebula Blue gradient, too, which goes from dark blue to light with a soft sheen.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Hardware

  • Snapdragon 855 processor with a X50 5G modem
  • 6.67-inch AMOLED display (HDR10+, 90Hz, in-display fingerprint sensor)
  • 4,000mAh battery with Warp Charge 30 (30W) fast charging
  • Triple camera module and pop-up selfie camera

Although the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G looks like the 7 Pro, the Snapdragon 855 chipset inside is joined by a Snapdragon X50 5G modem. There's also a 5G antennae and redesigned NFC antennae - plus, we think it has the OnePlus 7 Pro's liquid cooling system to ensure it doesn't overheat. Again, other than 5G support, the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G seems to be merely a 5G variant of its sibling.

That means the phone should be outfitted with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, featuring a 3120 x 1440 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, as well as an in-display fingerprint sensor. Internally, there could be up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. And for cameras, it will likely have a triple-module setup featuring a 48MP main sensor, 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 16MP wide sensor.

There should also be a 16MP front-facing pop-up camera for selfies, which is similar to those we've seen from Oppo and Vivo. Other features, presumably, include a 4,000mAh battery with Warp Charge 30 (30W) fast charging. To be clear, OnePlus isn't announcing specs or features the device will have yet, but we're assuming it'll be based entirely on the OnePlus 7 Pro - the company had previously told us there would be minimal differences.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Software

  • Oxygen OS based on Android 9 Pie

Not to be repetitive, but we're looking at the same OS powering the OnePlus 7 Pro most likely. So, expect Oxygen OS based on Android 9 Pie. It will also have a few neat software enhancements over stock Android, such as a new Zen Mode for taking a break and a Fnatic gaming mode.
