Virgin Media has announced that it's top level broadband speed of 350Mbps is now available to customers.

Around 15 million UK households now have the infrastructure to receive the fastest broadband service from the company and some might have noticed the boost in recent times.

"We’ve always been proud of our network’s speed and for good reason. Our lines bring blazingly fast download speeds which are leagues ahead of those our customers could find elsewhere.  We have been the speed leader since 2007: We intend to remain at the front of the pack." said Virgin Media's executive director for connectivity, Anthony Vollmer.

The increase in speeds is part of Virgin Media's Project Lightning upgrade programme, which has been underway for the last two years. Virgin Media has, in that time, been updating and improving its network to gigabit-capable standards. Finally, customers can now benefit.

Customers on the existing 300Mbps will automatically get an upgrade to the 350Mbps service at no extra charge. New customers, or existing ones on slower speeds can sign up to the Vivid 350 package at virginmedia.com

Prices start at £41 per month for the first 12 months for broadband only, without a phone line. This increases to £48 per month thereafter, and there is a £20 activation fee on top. Alternatively you can pay £48 per month with a £65 upfront charge for a 30 day rolling contract.

Business customers have already been enjoying speeds of up to 350Mbps. The business package of Voom Fibre offers up to 350Mbps download speeds and up to 20Mbps upload speeds, depending on the price plan chosen.
