(Pocket-lint) - Garmin has announced its Forerunner 630 GPS watch as its most cutting-edge running watch yet.

The round-faced, colour touchscreen Forerunner 630 boasts more running dynamics than its predecessor and is also smart connected for notifications.

Despite its slender appearance the watch is able to track: stride length, ground contact time balance, vertical ratio, lactate threshold, stress score and performance condition. Of course pace, speed, distance, time, calories burned and the other usual expectations are covered too. Plus activity tracking and sleep get measured even when in normal watch mode.

The watch is able to track data like heart rate and VO2 max estimates with any ANT+ HR monitor. The watch is Wi-Fi enabled so workouts are automatically uploaded. Then data can be viewed and analysed from the Garmin Connect Mobile app on a smartphone. This can also be linked to MyFitnessPal for those who use it to calorie count.

The Forerunner 630 can manage 16 hours of battery in training mode or a month in watch mode with activity tracking and smart notifications left on. It's also water resistant to 50 metres.

Using the Connect IQ smartwatch platform the layout can be modified to suit the tastes of the users. There is even a store with custom watch faces available for download.

The Garmin Forerunner 630 will be available in black/white and midnight blue from £330. With a heart rate monitor included it'll cost £390. The watch is being stocked exclusively by Runners Need from 30 October to 22 November.

Garmin also announced the Forerunner 235 and Forerunner 230. Both feature GPS, activity tracking and smart notifications. The 235 also has a wrist-based optical heart rate tracker built-in. The 230 can pair with ANT+ chest-strap HR monitors.

The Garmin Forerunner 230 will be available in black/white, purple/white and yellow/black from £210, or £240 with HRM. The Garmin Forerunner 235 will be in black/gray, black/marsala and frost blue/black for £270.
