Garmin has announced the Forerunner 15, its most affordable sports watch, looking to give those cheap sportsbands a bit of stiff competition.

Not only does the new Garmin Forerunner 15 offer running tracking - with GPS functionality and compatibility with heart rate monitors and foot pods - but it will also monitor your daily activity too like a fitness band.

When you're not out pounding the pavement or running trails, the Forerunner 15 will act as a pedometer, tracking your steps and will alert you when you've been sedentary for too long, prompting you to get up and walk around so you stay active.

The Garmin Forerunner 15 is designed to be worn all day, with a battery life that lasts 5 weeks, or offering 8 hours of GPS tracking.

The water offers water resistance up to 50 metres, gives you the sorts of running tracking features you'd expect from a dedicated running watch like lap timers and pacing guides.

Although you still need to connect your Forerunner 15 to a PC or Mac to retrieve the data, you'll be able to view it via Garmin Connect to keep abreast of your performance and progress.

The Garmin Forerunner 15 will be a two face sizes, with different colour options for each. The Forerunner 15 will cost £139 for the watch only, or £169 with the heart rate monitor strap.
