Adidas has released the miCoach Smart Ball Pocket-lint saw at a Adidas Lab event in London last May and it's priced at £249.95 on Apple's online store.

The football is designed to work with an iOS application that can track every kick thanks to a series of sensors placed around the inner lining of the ball. It relays data based on how hard it has been struck, its flight trajectory, ball spin and impact points.

The data can then be analysed to help train players and the app also offers coaching instructions on how to alter kicking techniques to get more power and bend into the ball.

A Challenge Yourself section adds personal targets for you to meet, such as a specific speed, bend or entire professional quality free kicks to replicate. A Record Book feature stores all kicks to track performance over time. The app also has social sharing functions so you can compare your results with others.

The Smart Ball is rechargeable through an included wireless induction charging stand.

"There was a huge amount of interest in the concept when we first showcased the ball," sais Christian DiBenedetto, Adidas' senior innovation director.

"The testing feedback from both amateur and professional athletes has been tremendous and we know users will love the engaging and instructional training this ball will bring to their game."

It is available now in the UK, US and Europe from adidas.com and apple.com.
