Microsoft Flight Simulator was rightly a bit of a sensation when it released earlier this year, helping people who'd just spent a summer locked indoors to see sights around the world to a gob-smacking level of fidelity and accuracy.

When Microsoft Flight Simulator first launched, there was the promise of VR support for the HP Reverb G2, with the hope of more in future. Now that hope is becoming reality. Today, the Asobo Studio has announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator now has VR support for most headsets with a free update.

As you'll see from this video announcing the update, the developers have taken the update seriously and are intent on creating "...the deepest and most immersive virtual flight experience in the new simulator to date."

This includes all manner of details that go right down to the smallest consideration - like making the virtual cursors on in-game displays controllable with your real-world mouse. Pinnable in-game menus are another highlight, but the real joy will come from being able to naturally and realistically turn your head inside the cockpit for a full world view.

Of course, we already know that Microsoft Flight Simulator is fairly taxing, even in its standard form. So you'll need a fairly beefy gaming PC in order to be able to appreciate it in VR as well.

That said, the Studio says that the update will allow support for most VR devices including Windows Mixed Reality headsets (such as the HP Reverb G2), Oculus Rift, Valve Index and HTC headsets too. So there's plenty of reason to get excited. Update your game, strap on and enjoy!
