Squid Game season 2 could be coming to Netflix by the end of 2023, according to its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

He hasn't yet started on the script though, so it could creep into 2024.

Hwang explained during an interview with Vanity Fair that he only has three pages of ideas penned at present, although they will form the basis of the final draft and series.

The director had previously hinted that the second season could follow some of the surviving characters in the world outside of the games. However, he's now confirmed that there will definitely be new fatal challenges too: "Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again," said Hwang.

There could be a change in how the games progress though, with a hint that players could be more inclined to team up this time: "“If they were capable of talking with one another, of cooperating with one another, I do agree that there could have been a possibility that we could have seen more winners," he told the magazine. If they weren't so "focused on wanting to kill each other off."

"I want to ask the question, 'Is true solidarity between humans possible?'" he added.
