Apple is reportedly preparing two new devices.
Digitimes, which has a so-so track record but does have well-connected sources in the supplier industry in Asia, is claiming that Apple suppliers are ramping up production on touchscreens for two new iPad models that are expected to be released in the first half of this year. This fits with the typical iPad release schedule, as updates are typically announced in March or April.
One of the iPad models could be the iPad Mini 5. If so, the long-awaited update to iPad Mini 4 will feature a 7.9-inch screen, though there is speculation Apple's smaller line of iPad models might be killed off entirely, as the iPhone XS Max comes close to 6.5 inches. Still, this new Mini will have large bezels and a home button. There’s not much more on the so-called iPad 5 Mini right now.
However, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo did claim late last year that a new iPad mini is coming with a cheaper display and upgraded processor.
As for the other expected iPad model, it could be an update to the entry-level $329 iPad from 2018. Apple wants to keep the price down on this model in order to make it more affordable for students and consumers, so there might not be any huge upgrades. That being said, there have been reports that the 9.7-inch entry-level iPad could be replaced by a 10-inch model with a redesigned body that works with the Apple Pencil 2.
Keep in mind, with spring coming up fast, more information about a price and and possible component upgrades will likely be leaking out soon.
