Why choose a SIM Only plan

Choosing a SIM Only plan is a good way of saving some money, by either keeping your current phone when it's out of contract and switching or buying a new phone outright and then getting a SIM contract.

The latter could be more cheaper in the long run, when you work out the total cost of both the phone and the SIM Only plan added together.

That could very well undercut the cost of getting a phone on a long contract, and it also gives you the added benefit of being able to switch networks when a better deal becomes available.

That's because SIM Only plans can be taken out in either 30 day, 12 on 24 month contracts, where typically a phone contract is over two years.

How much data should I use?

When opting for a new plan it's worth taking a look at your current allowances, and how much you go over on a regular basis.

If you're frequently hitting the limit on a 10GB plan and are either buying more data, or only using Wi-Fi - get a bigger plan now.

You might also be switching to a 5G phone which has the potential to use more data with its faster Internet speeds, so it's worth considering that when switching.

Which size SIM card should I get?

Most phones have a nano-SIM card slot, compared to some years ago when there was a mixture of nano and micro SIMs.

But do not worry on that front, as most SIM cards arrive in one size to fit all and you pop out the SIM to match your phone.
