Samsung's Galaxy A series range of smartphones are excellent. Typically - especially at the higher end of the range - the A series devices take some of the best features of the Galaxy S range but offer them in a more affordable package and this is the case for the same for the latest devices.

Succeeding the Galaxy A52s 5G, A52 5G and Galaxy A72, Samsung has announced the Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A73 5G, alongside the Galaxy A33 5G - which is very similar to the Galaxy A53 5G.

This is everything we know about the very quietly announced Samsung Galaxy A73 5G.

Release date and price

  • Announced 17 March 2022
  • Available 22 April 2022
  • Price TBC

Samsung held a Galaxy A event on 17 March 2022, where multiple devices were revealed, including the Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A33 5G. Whilst the Galaxy A73 5G wasn't revealed on stage, Samsung quietly mentioned the device at the bottom of a press release and on its newsroom.

No details have been provided on its price as yet, though Samsung did say the Galaxy A73 5G "will be available in select markets on April 22." It is not currently known what the select markets are but we will update this feature when we learn more.

Design

  • 163.7 x 76.1 x 7.6mm, 181g
  • Black, white and sage

The Samsung Galaxy A73 looks very similar to the Galaxy A53 5G. It has a flat display that has a punch hole camera centralised at the top, very slim bezels around the screen and a quad camera on the rear comprised of three large lenses and a smaller lens.

There is a plastic frame, a "glasstic" rear and the camera housing is a single island, rather than wrapping into the frame like the S22 models offer. The housing does blend seamlessly into to rear of the phone though, offering a streamlined finish.

The Galaxy A73 5G measures 163.7 x 76.1 x 7.6mm, weighs 181g and it is IP67 water and dust resistant. It comes in black, white and sage colour options.

Display

  • 6.7-inch
  • 2400 x 1080 resolution
  • 120Hz refrssh rate

The Samsung Galaxy A73 comes with a 6.7-inch display. It's a Super AMOLED+ panel amd Samsung calls it an Infinity O display - which is because of the punch hole camera at the top of the display.

It has a Full HD+ pixel resolution and as we mentioned previously, it's a flat display.

The A73 offers a 120Hz refresh rate, which is a slight step down from the adaptive 120Hz refresh rate offered on the Galaxy S22 series.

The Samsung Galaxy A73 is claimed to be running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset - though this is currently not official. Samsung only states it's an Octa-Core processor, rather than specifying which one.

We do know that the A73 5G is available in a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage variant, as well as an 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage variant though, both of which offer microSD storage expansion up to 1TB.

In terms of batter capacity, the Samsung Galaxy A73 comes with a 5000mAh battery capacity and support for 25W fast charging. There's no wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

The main sensor is 108-megapixels and it offers a f/1.8 aperture with optical image stabilisation. The ultra wide sensor is 12-megapixels, while the depth and macro sensors are both 5-megapixels.

On the front, there is a 32-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.2.
