Verizon will launch its mobile 5G network on 11 April in the US cities of Chicago and Minneapolis, and alongside that, the carrier’s first 5G smartphone, the Moto Z3, will get a 5G Moto Mod, which will retail at about $349.99.

The $480 Moto Z3, Motorola's new flagship device, offers a 6-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, a high-spec Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, dual cameras, and a super-tough 6000 series aluminium frame. It's one the first phones to deliver 5G connectivity in the US. But not straight off the bat, as you'll need to buy the 5G Moto Mod - pre-orders start on 14 March - to get those top-most connectivity speeds.

The 5G Mod uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem, with speeds up to 5Gbps. It's exclusive to Verizon. If you pre-order, the carrier is offering it for just $50, which is a huge discount off the $350 price tag. You will need to already own an active Moto Z3 on your Verizon account in order to purchase the Moto Mod, however. Or, you’ll need to get one at the same time that you buy the accessory.

The Moto Z3 first arrived last August, well ahead of its 5G Mod counterpart. Check out our guide here to see how it compares to the Moto Z2.
