In April, Pocket-lint with support from Resideo, the new home of Honeywell Home products, embarked on an ambitious project of giving you the reader the chance to have a tree planted in your name.

The month long campaign saw us cover a wide range of sustainability projects around the world from various groups and companies which easily demonstrate ways in which you can get involved by reducing your carbon footprint, save money, and save the planet at the same time.

We are pleased to announce that following our "Plant a free tree" campaign we will be planting a further 1,000 trees in the UK as part of the Woodland Carbon Code project, bringing the total of trees we've planted in 2020 up to 2,200 trees in total.

That represents around 578 carbon tonnes of CO2 that will be offset – around 4 to 5 year's of Pocket-lint yearly carbon usage as a company - taking us up to 2025 already.

And it's not too late for you to get involved in trying to reduce your own carbon footprint. Buying and installing a smart thermostat is just one very effective and easy way to reduce your carbon emissions.

According to research, over 82 per cent of the home's energy in the UK goes towards heating and having even the most basic of smart thermostats can save an average of 23 per cent or in some cases possibly more, so not only are you saving money, but also helping the environment too.

Pocket-lint will be continuing its efforts as a company to address its own carbon impact on the environment and we plan to continue to highlight and showcase companies that are innovative in this area going forward.

You can read up on Pocket-lint's sustainability goals via our own permanent sustainability page. It sets out our goals and features a number of articles, how-tos, features, and podcast interviews to get you started.
