Apple has announced that its Find My platform now works with third-party companies - something it first teased was coming last year.

Now, any hardware manufacturer can support Apple's tracking network to help you locate missing items. The first slate of third-party products to work with Find My include VanMoof’s S3 and X3 e-bikes, Belkin’s SoundForm Freedom wireless earbuds, and the Chipolo One Spot tracking tag. That means those products can now leverage Apple’s crowdsourced Bluetooth network, which includes millions of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

You simply need to add those devices to the updated Find My app, and then you can track them through that app like you'd track your missing iPhone.

Third-party devices that wish to support Find My need to meet Apple’s Made for iPhone (MFi) accessory requirements. If they do and are approved, then they will get a new “Works with Apple Find My” badge to let customers know that they’re compatible with Apple’s network.

A new Find My Certification Assistant app has been released by Apple, according to TechTastic, which is aimed squarely at helping manufacturers and developers to get Find My working with their devices. Apple has also announced it’ll release a chipset specification for companies to integrate with the Ultra-Wideband systems in Apple’s newer phones for more precise tracking.

Keep in mind Apple has been rumoured for well over a year to be developing its own so-called "AirTags" product with UWB-based tracking.
