ViacomCBS' latest Star Trek series for Paramount+ is called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Here's what you need to know about the new show, including when it'll be available to watch and where you can stream it. Plus, we have trailers and casting details and more tidbits.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: What to know

The new show focuses on the characters Captain Christopher Pike, Number One, and Science Officer Spock. It is set "in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the USS Enterprise", when the three characters "explore new worlds around the galaxy". The actors playing these characters are reprising their roles, as they were also featured in Star Trek: Discovery’s second season.

"Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season," said Julie McNamara, executive vice president and head of programming at CBS All Access. "This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek."

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: How to watch

Strange New Worlds premiered on Paramount+ in the US. Paramount+ offers two plans: The Essential tier with limited commercials for $4.99 a month, and the $9.99 Premium plan with no ads (except on live TV and a few shows).

UK

ViacomCBS inked a deal with Sky to launch Paramount+ in the UK, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland in 2022. The UK launch is on 22 June 2022.

It will be available on Sky platforms (plus Sky will continue to carry ViacomCBS pay-TV channels such as Comedy Central). Sky Cinema subscribers will get Paramount+ at no extra cost, apparently, but other Sky customers will have to add it to their accounts - but it will also be available directly through the Paramount+ app, on Apple, Google, Roku and Samsung devices.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: How to catch up

  • Part of growing Star Trek Universe and franchise

Star Trek: Discovery debuted in 2017 as then-CBS All Access' first big Star Trek series, and it was followed a couple of years later by Star Trek: Picard. Besides Strange New Worlds, there are even more Star Trek shows in development. Clearly, ViacomCBS wants to ramp up its Star Trek franchise as a means of growing its rebranded streaming service, Paramount+, to better compete with the likes of Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix, and so on.

To see where Strange New Worlds fits into the Star Trek timeline, check out our Star Trek Universe watch guide. The universe is composed of 13 films and nine TV shows. Now, it'd be easy enough to watch them all in the order they premiered, but if you prefer to watch everything chronologically (when the events take place), we've compiled an ultimate viewing guide for you. It lists all the Star Trek movies and shows to date and the best order to watch them.
