Oppo has unveiled its first 5G smartphone and it looks like the same hardware that it was using to demonstrate its new 10x lossless zoom technology.

Oppo, sister company of OnePlus, showed off its 5G handset on the Qualcomm stand at Mobile World Congress 2019, but hasn't said a lot more about it.

The company has confirmed that it is running Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with the X50 modem to enable the next-gen connectivity, but beyond that, information is rather limited.

Oppo has gone a step further than OnePlus - whose 5G handset is completely encased in plastic - but we suspect that the design of these two phones could be similar, based on previous devices from both companies.

The demo on the stand is about cloud streaming games - using a 5G network setup by Ericsson and Qualcomm - and that's one of the cited benefits of 5G - lag-free and low latency for smoother real-time streaming experiences.

From what we can see though (most of what you're looking at is a case), you can expect a big screen experience, with that three camera arrangement, ultra-wide, normal and that 10x zoom. We can't see a lot more around the body of the phone, but we get the feeling that this phone is pretty close to a full announcement.

Oppo has said that it is focusing its energies on 5G and enhancing photography experiences, but as the company looks to expand its offering globally, 5G presents an opportunity to be slightly ahead of the pack - and potentially - offer more attractive prices than some of the better-known brands.
