Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the biggest mobile event of the year. The show debuts many of the year's top smartphones, smartwatches and tablets, as well as being the launchpad for the hottest new trends in mobile.

Outside the consumer sphere, it also draws in many of the industry heavyweights to talk about the future of mobile, like 5G, satellite communications, mobile hardware, VR and other associated technologies.

Here are the announcements that matter from MWC 2023.

When is Mobile World Congress?

  • MWC Barcelona: 27 February-2 March 2023

After a few years of cancellation and delayed events due to the pandemic, Mobile World Congress returned to its traditional end-of-February calendar slot this year.

The 2023 show is a full, in-person show and runs from Monday 27 February until 2 March. A few press events, from the likes of Nokia and Xiaomi, took place immediately beforehand.

What's been announced at Mobile World Congress 2023?

While there are many announcements that come out of Mobile World Congress, not all of it matters. For fans to tech, these are the announcements that matter in the consumer space.

Honor at MWC 2023

Honor held its press conference on the Monday of the show, where it launched the Honor Magic 5 series - with the Honor Magic 5 Pro being the flagship device. In addition, it gave the Honor Magic Vs a global launch. The latter phone was launched in China towards the end of 2023, but it has confirmed that it's also coming to other territories, such as the UK and Europe.

Huawei

Huawei at MWC 2023

Huawei has mainly focused on its new smartwatch this year, with the Huawei Watch GT Cyber being its major announcement at MWC 2023. Previously announced in China, it comes with a detachable watch face to allow you to customise the wearable beyond just changing the strap. You can read more about it here.

Lenovo at MWC 2023

Lenovo announced a range of products at MWC 2023, including new ThinkPads and two additions to its IdeaPad range, including the IdeaPad Duet 3i that you can read our initial review of here. The company also revealed a rollable laptop concept, which was very cool - our first look of that concept is here.

MediaTek

MediaTek at MWC 2023

Like Qualcomm, one the big announcements for MediaTek at Mobile World Congress centres on its satellite communications technology. It'll be the hardware inside the Motorola Defy Satellite Link that adds communications features to any phone that struggles with a conventional signal - the MT6825.

Like Lenovo, its phone brand Motorola also has some interesting tech on show, including the Rizr - a rollable phone concept that we got to see behind closed doors. You can read all about it in our feature here.

Nokia at MWC 2023

Nokia announced a new entry-level smartphone - the G22 - in the run up to MWC, which is said to be easily repairable, thanks to a partnership with iFixit. We've got an initial review of the Nokia G22 device that you can read. However, that was about it, with the others in the lineup at the budget end rather than flagship.

OnePlus at MWC 2023

OnePlus has already announced the OnePlus 11, along with several other devices. But, the company does have something extra at MWC in the form of the OnePlus 11 Concept - a handset that has its own, glowing cooling system on the rear.

Qualcomm at MWC 2023

Qualcomm always makes quite the show at Mobile World Congress and 2023 proved no different. Qualcomm announced partnerships with a number of big brand Android phone manufacturers for its Snapdragon Satellite platform - a system to ensure users can remain in contact even when there is no phone signal. You can find out more about it here. The company also fleshed out its places for Snapdragon Spaces, its XR developer platform.

Realme will host its own event on the Tuesday of the show, to unveil the Realme GT 3. It's the international version of the Realme GT Neo 5 and will similarly come with 240W charging. You'll be able to watch the launch here.

TCL at MWC 2023

TCL made a number of announcements during this year's Mobile World Congress with, arguably, the sexiest being its TCL NXTPaper 11 tablet. While full colour, it has a paper-like display so can be used as a graphics device with a low latency stylus. It certainly looks neat.

Xiaomi 13 Pro rear design

Xiaomi had already announced the Xiaomi 13, but followed up with the launch of the Xiaomi 13 Pro at MWC 2023. It also unveiled the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro in-ear headphones and the Watch S1 Pro. It also demonstrated its Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition glasses, so it's been busy.
