Walmart has unveiled its concept truck, Wave (Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience), that uses aerodynamics and micro-turbines for super fuel efficiency.

The concept truck, that looks like it's crushing a small car, is built to be 20 per cent more aerodynamic than current models. Under the hood it's powered by a micro-turbine hybrid electric powertrain that can utilise diesel, natural gas, biodiesel and "probably other fuels still to be developed", says Walmart.

The truck features the world's first 53-foot carbon fibre trailer with panels made from single pieces of the super-light material. The cabin seats the driver in its centre surrounded by windows for a super-clear view. The steering wheel is flanked by two LCD screen for live driving information. There's even a full sleeper cabin in the back.

Numbers for fuel efficiency haven't been released as this is just a concept. "It may never make it to the road, but it will allow us to test new technologies and new approaches," says Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon.
