Kodak has joined the actioncam market with its SP1, available to buy now, and its recently-announced WP1, which the company presented at its recent European press event.

A new concept was also presented at the event in the form of a 360-degree action camera, the SP360, that will be able to capture the action itself, along with the person or object performing it.

We caught up with the three new cameras for a quick play, but we didn't have the chance to test them fully.

Kodak PixPro SP1 Action Cam

The Kodak PixPro SP1 Action Cam is certainly not likely to get lost easily with its bright yellow and black colour theme and the build was small enough too, measuring 84.7 x 51.4 x 39.5mm. It weighs 155g so it shouldn't get in the way of whichever action-packed sport you are using it for. The microphones for capturing all the sound are located underneath the lens.

It is waterproof up to 10 metres and up to 2 metres shockproof without any additional housing so what you see, is what you get. There is a standard tripod mount on the bottom of the device and you'll find the battery, along with a HDMI, Micro-USB and an microSD card slot in the rear of the camera under the flap.

The SP1 Action Cam has a 14-megapixel CMOS sensor and it is capable of shooting Full HD video for 130 minutes or taking 350 shots before the 1250mAh battery needs recharging.

It offers a 170-degree wide-angle capture, which is reduced to 150-degrees under water and it is capable of burst shooting at 10fps in full resolution.

There is a 1.5-inch LCD display on the side of the device, with all the controls sitting on the top offering a simple and easy to navigate layout, plus you'll find a wireless connection for transferring files from the camera to your device.

One thing that makes this action camera stand out from the crowd, except for its colour of course, is the fact that it comes with accessory packs included. The packs available comprise an Explorer pack, Aqua Sport pack and Extreme pack, all of which feature a range of mounts so you can take this little number everywhere with you.

The Kodak PixPro SP1 Action Cam is available from £200. 

Kodak PixPro WP1 Action Cam

Offering the same yellow and black design theme as the SP1 action camera, the PixPro WP1 takes its waterproofing capabilities down a notch to 5-metres and its shockproof offering down to 1.5-metres.

The build itself is slightly wider than the SP1 but it is slimmer and stills feels light to hold. As the WP1 isn't due to come out until later this year, details on the action camera were a little scarce, but it is certainly a waterproof camera that can capture video as opposed to an action camera like the SP1.

There is set to be a 16-megapixel sensor on board and Kodak has said it will come with a 31mm (equivalent) focal length with a maximum f/2.8 aperture.

There is a display on rear of the device, along with menu controls including a playback button, mode button and recording option next to the screen, and you'll find the capture button on top.

The Kodak PixPro WP1 Action Cam is said to retail for around £70 when it hits the shelves.

Kodak PixPro SP360

Last but certainly not least is the Kodak PixPro SP360. Although just a concept at the moment, it was the one we were most intrigued by this one in the company's action camera line up.

The cube-shaped yellow and black camera is claimed to be the first full angle view action camera and will offer a range of applications when it eventually arrives. There is a standard tripod mount on one side of the cube, along with a HDMI, USB and microSD support but as it was a concept, we couldn't lift the flap on this model.

It is small and light as you would expect, but there were no details revealed on the specs inside. According to Kodak, you will be able to create and action movie with yourself, use it as a car camera, conference camera and for Astra capture. As it is "splashproof" rather than waterproof, we are guessing this one won't be one you can take swimming but this might change when it eventually launches.

There is a large button for recording along with a "Mode" option that appears to be a power switch too. Underneath the device is an arrow that has "Open" underneath so we assume this is where the battery will be housed. There are also Wi-Fi and NFC symbols so we presume both these options will be on board, and a small display presumably for information such as resolution and settings.

We saw a sample video of what the camera can achieve and we have to say we like the idea so it will be interesting to see how the concept develops.
