If you're looking for the perfect compact camera to take to that party, then Sony thinks it has a solution in the newly announced Cyber-shot W830 and W810 models.

Unveiled in party town Las Vegas at CES 2014, the two new models are designed for those who want better results than their smartphone will offer, but without breaking the bank - although the prices are yet to be announced.

Both cameras are compact, have a 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor and offer zoom lenses: the W860 has 8x zoom, the W810 has 6x optical zoom.

Movie capture is limited to 1280 x 720 HD, which seems a little mean, but there's a range of effects to take away the pain in your still shooting. Highlighted is the beauty effect, so if your friends don't look the best, you can tidy them up using the camera.

The W830 offers a Zeiss lens and Optical SteadyShot, so is likely to be the better performer of the pair.

The Sony Cyber-shot W830 will be available in black, silver, pink and violet. The Cyber-shot W810 will be available in black, silver and pink.

The new pair will be available from February 2014, prices are yet to be confirmed.
