Adding to Sony's line-up is the Action Cam HDR-AS30V, providing a wearable video camera for capturing any adventures you fancy taking.

It comes packed with features including GPS, Wi-Fi and NFC, but first up is its waterproof casing. The Action Cam HDR-AS30V's housing is said to be 35 per cent lighter and 25 per cent smaller than its predecessor and when we held it, we found it was light in weight and a good size.

It comes packed with a wide-angle Zeiss Tessor lens, with a 170-degree field of view, coming down to 120-degree when the SteadyShot feature is on. It also has a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, which Sony says will capture more light to give you even better quality Full HD footage. Such bold claims are often made.

In addition, the 11.9-megapixel camera will capture still images alongside HD movies, and it will also capture them upside down so you’ll never miss a moment of action, no matter what you're doing.

The Action Cam HDR-AS30V will give you a choice of recording modes, suitable for fast-moving action in addition to two slow-moving modes. Connectivity-wise, it comes packed with features. Wi-Fi lets you connect to your smartphone to transfer your action-packed shots and it's no surprise to find that NFC logo, so for quick tap connection to your phone. This seemed to work well when we saw it in action on the stand, but we're yet to test it ourselves.

The Wi-Fi feature also enables the Action Cam to link to the optional RM-LVR1 Live-View Remote, a waterproof wristwatch-style controller that allows hands-free operation. You can check you're getting the best shot, start and stop recording, as well as select photo and movie modes: the last thing you need half way down a ski slope is to have to fiddle with the camera on the top of your head.

GPS gives you a whole host of options including Map View, which tracks your movements and Multi View, which give you speed information.

The Action Cam HDR-AS30V also comes with a huge range of accessories, including the AKA-CMH1 Chest Mount Harness and BLT-UHM1 Universal Head Mount Kit, so you should have any problem getting it to stay attached.

The Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V will be available in Europe from the end of September.
