SanDisk and Sony have announced the joint development project, that is set to expand its Memory Stick Pro range to capacities of up to 2TB.
Currently named "Memory Stick format series for extended high capacity", the new line will take the entire Memory Stick PRO series (PRO, PRO HG and Micro) and boost their capacities by up to 60 times. The largest capacity currently available is 32GB.
Announced alongside the new line was a new format, the Memory Stick HG Micro, a format expanded from Memory Stick Micro.
This new format adopts an enhanced 8-bit parallel interface, which will enable maximum data-transfer speeds of 60MB/s to make it one of the fastest, smallest memory card formats to date.
The companies have said that format licensing for the products will begin in 2009, but no idea as to when we can expect to see them on our shelves.
