Samsung has announced the UK launch of the 10-megapixel PL50 and the 12-megapixel PL65 compact cameras.

Aimed at "photography enthusiasts" and "those looking for clever technology", the new cameras offer Samsung's new "Smart Auto” scene recognition tech with 11 searchable pre-settings for different shooting situations.

In addition, the models offer Samsung's "Smart Album" digital content management system that claims quick and easy storage and photo finding based on dates, contents, colours or themes.

Other tech tricks include face detection, smile mode, beauty shot and "Blink Detection Mode" for that one person we all know who always manages to shut their eyes at the moment of capture.

In addition, there's digital image stabilisation with the PL65 getting Samsung's "dual image" stabilisation tech for both digital and optical correction.

One more whizzy feature of note is Samsung's new "Frame" guide feature which the company says means you "no longer need to rely on the technological capabilities of strangers for perfect holiday snaps".

With the "Frame" setting, the camera takes a ghost picture of your desired shot and displays a template when you pass the camera over to someone else - ensuring they (hopefully) take the picture you want them to take.

Available from March, the PL50 will retail at £119 and is available in candy pink, black and silver while the PL65 will retail at £179 and comes in black, pink, silver and dark grey.
