Pentax has introduced a new portable scanner that seems to be available only in the US at the moment.

The DSmobile 600 is a slim and compact 600dpi colour scanner that promises to provide greater speeds than previous mobile scanners.

It measures only 1.5-inch in height, 11-inches in length, and weights only 12oz. It can handle media as small as business cards, and connects via USB2.0. Separate power cables are not necessary, as it derives power from the PC or Mac.

Touching one button on the Dsmobile 600 will launch a choice of scanning software, including DSmobileSCAN to save direct to PDF, and PageManager Version 7.

It scans pages via a sheet-feeder, and comes with software designed for use with Windows XP, 200, ME, and 98SE. The company promises drivers for Mac OSX will follow, but doesn't mention compatibility with Windows Vista.

The DSmobile 600 Scanner is available now for $135.
